How many finals dhoni Played in IPL?
Mahendra Singh Dhoni is the player with the experience of most final games in the IPL. He has played nine of the 12 IPL finals so far and, during this time, he has also won the IPL trophy 3 times. Dhoni has played in 8 finals for Chennai Super Kings and one for Rising Pune Supergiants.
Dhoni has made 176 appearances for CSK in the Indian Premier League (IPL) besides having 24 outings for the side in the Champions League T20 (CLT20) tournament in the past. The former India captain also represented Rising Pune Supergiant in 30 IPL matches in the 2016-17 seasons.
What is Dhoni’s best performance at the IPL?
Dhoni’s best IPL performance came in 2019 and this was especially better than the others because people considered that he is done and has nothing left in him in terms of batting. However, an old lion is still a lion in the jungle and can surprise you at any moment.
MS Dhoni nearly pulled off a miraculous chase against Royal Challengers Bangalore with a whirlwind knock of unbeaten 84 off 48 balls. CSK lost four wickets for 28 inside six overs after Dale Steyn picked up two wickets early with the new ball. Dhoni kept CSK in the hunt as he added 55 runs for the 5th wicket with Rayudu (29). It was 49 required off last 18 balls with Dhoni and Bravo in the middle.
He slammed a six each in the 18th and 19th over respectively from Dale Steyn and Navdeep Saini. With 26 to get off the last over from Umesh Yadav, Dhoni started with a four before smashing two back-to-back sixes. The equation came down to 10 runs needed off the last three deliveries when Dhoni managed to get a couple off a low full-toss.
He hit another six to bring it down to the last ball with two required to win. He failed to connect the final delivery which was bowled outside off as CSK lost the game by 1 run. Despite coming in a losing cause, Dhoni’s 84 will go down as one of the best in the tournament history as he nearly pulled off an impossible chase.
According to me , the best MSD performance in the IPL are 3 performances among which I can’t choose , which were-
IPL 2010 , when CSK played against KXIP , it was a do or die match , CSK had been to the playoffs in the first 2 seasons but couldn’t win the title , and this time again it seemed the same fate for CSK , until MSD pulled an almost impossible match.(IPL T20)
His score was 59* of 29 balls.
IPL 2018 , RCB v CSK , RCB had scored a huge score of 206 , which put RCB in driving seat even after the second innings started , they thought they had won it , and AGAIN pulled it off even with a very high required rate . This knock was so good , me being a RCBian love this innings.
His score was 70* off 344 balls.
IPL 2019 , yet again RCB v CSK , in chinnaswamy again , this time CSK got very close but lost by 1 run , which makes his innings not get much limelight even though he scored more than half the target all by himself , but this was one of his career best innings
His score was 84* of 48 balls.
Best part of all these innings , he came through unbeaten , showing why he is the best finisher.(how many finals dhoni played in ipl)
Why do many people hate MS Dhoni? Is he overrated?
I found a bulky and healthy discussion about this crucial topic. So I am highlighting some crucial factors why people didn’t like MS Dhoni particularly as captain.
As a Team player and as Wicket Keeper, there is no question mark on Dhoni, but there are some issues related to high professionalism under captaincy of MS Dhoni.
MS Dhoni was selected for nation team in December 2004 first time for the tour of Bangladesh. Sourav Ganguly (Captain) was single reason, who forced the selector to pick up Dhoni.
In 2007, for first T20 World cup, MS Dhoni was elected as captain, because Dravid, Tendulkar, and Ganguly had left their seats for Newcomers.
People gives whole credit for WT20 winning to MS Dhoni. But we should not forget it was a team effort, and Sehwag, Gambhir & Yuvraj played a very crucial role in that. In the Final game, if someone remember the last over, full of drama and excitement. So we can give credit to dhoni, but not as a whole.
in October 2007, Dhoni was replaced Rahul Dravid as full time captain for ODI Squad, with in 3 months of Captaincy of Dhoni, the Drama begins and Sourav Ganguly the first man, who was kicked-out from ODI forever, in between the crucial tour of Australia in January 2008, without any reason.
In the Commonwealth Bank ODI Series of 2008 (Australia), Dhoni replaced the opening order, Rohit Sharma was new opener and Virender Sehwag was not selected in Final XI in many matches on the same tour.
In March 2009, Dhoni replaced Anil Kumble as test captain, beat NewZealand by 1–0 in NewZealand, but the point is that , The Kiwi team was 2nd layer team, and senior players of NewZealand had boycott the tour due to sponsorship & salary issue with their Board.
For test matches point of view, if we compare Ganguly & Dhoni, although Dhoni seems to better in paper record overall, but if the performance is segmented as per overseas conditions (Specially Australian, England, South African track), Ganguly had much better record.
In 2011 India won WORLD CUP, credit given to Dhoni, but we knew that, it was a team efforts, Home Conditions, Better Luck and Easy Game Format (Quarter Final format) were also factors. Think, about the format of SUPERSIX in 1999 & 2003 World Cup were more complex. (INDIA in 2011 had much better home advantage credits). Same Captain, Same Format in 2015 WORLD CUP, except home venues, but result differs.
from July 2011 to January 2012, MS DHONI lost 7 test matches in a row overseas ( This should be 8 matches, but in Adelaide Test in Jan 2012, Dhoni didn’t participate and Sehwag was acting captain).
He is the only man in Indian cricket history, who retained as captain after 7 successive lose in test matches, but this was not an issue for Media & fans.
In August 2012, VVS LAXMAN dropped from test matches, for the NewZealand tour to INDIA, and point is, the venue was Hyderabad, hometown of VVS LAXMAN.
Laxman was shocked due to sudden drop, he called to MS DHONI, but dhoni didn’t pick the call (As Laxman said in an interview after dropped). After that Laxman announced retirement from international cricket. Sources said that DHONI was behind the screen.
In March 2013, Sehwag was permanently dropped from team for AUSTRALIA tour to INDIA, Sehwag replaced by Shikar Dhwan. But the point is, Sehwag was in good test form at that time, so why he dropped, no one knew.
Dhoni gave more commitment to IPL & CSK (Chennai Super King), CSK is banned due to Match Fixing scams. Justice R. M. Lodha is handed over a report, which is a list of 13 players, who played at international level and found involved in match fixing. As some sources says that half of them are from CSK. So how one can believe that Dhoni was not aware of that.
In March 2014, INDIA lost the final of T20 World Cup 2014, and whole blamed to Yuvraj Singh & Yuvraj was permanently dropped from team.
In December 2014, Dhoni announced a sudden retirement in between Tour of Australia 2014–15, and everyone praised him for his contribution. But no one asked a question that why he left in between the tour? why he didn’t wait for end of the series? Everyone knows that Australian tour is most complex tour, & Dhoni didn’t wait for completing it.
In August 2014 Gautam Gambhir was the final target for DHONI who dropped out after england tour in 2014.
In 2015 World Cup, Dhoni forced selectors to pick Ravinder Jadeja, who was unfit and not in position to play, but got selected and didn’t play even a single match in WORLD CUP 2015. Selectors wants Yuvraj Singh in team, but Dhoni not, so things were settle down according Dhoni.
In Last DHONI was credited solely (for winning in WT20–2007, WORLD CUP 2011 & Champions Trophy in 2013) and Dhoni also accepted the credits. But when the team lose, Batsman is responsible, Bowler is responsible or fielder is responsible but DHONI not….why?? Can Someone remembered, when loosing any International Series (Test/ODI’s), Dhoni said that “ Yes we lost and being captain for team I am responsible for it”. As I knew DHONI never says the words yet.
Dhoni has played with some legends cricketers like Tendulkar, Dravid, Sehwag, Kumble, Ganguly, Laxman etc. These all either retired or being dropped from team in between Captaincy of Dhoni. These cricketers couldn’t get farewell series or match for Both formats of Cricket (ODI and Test). They only got farewell for one format or never got farewell match. MS, who has a good influence in BCCI, at least could take some initiative for complete farewell of these legend cricketers in all cricketing formats, but he didn’t.
So if someone take credit for winning, he should also take the responsibility of defeat. So these are the reason people aren’t liking MS DHONI.
